Summary: When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder -- much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing -- not even a smear of blood -- to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?
This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know. . . .
Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare's ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride that they will never want to end. via goodreads
My Thoughts: Wow! This was a really good book, but I have to say, not as good as Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare. I love Cassandra's writing style, and a paranormal book-- mmm! One of my favorites. Granted, I did grab it off of the adult fiction shelf at my library, so it was some pretty heavy fiction. It was definitely something you had to be into from the very beginning, or you wouldn't catch on. I recently finished City of Ashes (book 2) and am now reading City of Glass (book 3) I want to go see the movie when it comes out this summer in August. Anyways, overall it was fantastic! I definitely recommend it to anyone who hasn't read it.
Language: Oh goodness. Um... I remember h***, d**n, a**, (this might have been the second book) b****, and sh**.
Violence: The whole story is paranormal beings like: Shadowhunters, vampires, wearwolves, demons, faeries, and witches/warlocks; so there is definitely going to be some violence in there. The Shadowhunters kill demons, then a demon does attack Clary and her mom, Jocelyn. Um... I can't remember everything, right now all I'm remembering is the second book. Yeah. But I think you can understand there is a bunch of violence in this book.
Romance/S**uality: Kissing, flirting, and there is some minor talk of having s**.
Other: I think I got everything. Unless you count smart-aleck Jace. HUGE smart-aleck.
My Rating: 5 stars
Age Group: 13+ (I know, I'm almost twelve...)
