Blog Hacker #5 {Klarabelle}

Hi everyone!

I'm Kara! (I know, I just said my name was Klarabelle. It's a long story...) Meena asked me to be one of her blog hackers... so here I am! This is my first time guest posting for anyone. I confess that currently I'm suffering from a bit of stage fright...

I s'pose I should tell you a bit about myself. Well, first and foremost, I'm a Christian. I love my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  I also enjoy writing (novels) and blogging. I adore music, particularly musicals (Les Mis!!!). Other random facts about me? I like to paint my fingernails in bright colors. I wear mismatched socks. I love receiving letters. I enjoy e-mailing too, but sometimes I take weeks to reply. :O I like to hang out with my friends. Much to my embarrassment, I rarely cry during movies (yes, you read that correctly. Let me explain: when one's friends are all in tears and the only thing one can think of is a sarcastic comment... it begins to feel a bit awkward.) That being said, I'm not an extremely sarcastic person... Okay, enough about myself. You should tell me about yourself! Will you post at least 5 random facts about yourself? Please?

Well, while I'm here I thought I'd impart a bit of blogging advice to you. Well, I'm not sure if "advice" is the right word. (If it isn't, I apologize right now.) Anyway, I'd best stop procrastinating and continue with my thought(s).

Goodness > Greatness

The other day my family and I went to see Oz the Great and Powerful, the back story of the Wizard of Oz. The movie chronicles the life of "magician" Oscar Diggs (the wizard) before he is swept up in a tornado and transported to the land of Oz. This is not an endorsement or even review of the movie, but I mention it because one of the lines in the movie caught my attention... "I don't want to be a good man," Oscar says. "I want to be a great one." I think sometimes as bloggers (or just people in general), it's easy to become caught up in the idea of becoming great. But what constitutes a "great" (as in magnificent, fantastic, wonderful, etc.) blog? A blog with hundreds of followers? A blog that receives 10+ comments after every post? A blog devoted to a certain subject? A blog with a really epic blog design? Though all these aspects are notable and exciting, do they really make a blog great?

Maybe.

The problem is, my definition of "great" might be different than your definition of "great". I might think the best birthday present ever would be tickets to see Josh Groban. You might think the best birthday present ever would be a new iPod. Or a pink alarm clock. Or a fluffy purple rug.

It is so tempting to wish for as many followers as so-and-so. Or a "way with words" like someone else has.

But maybe the focus shouldn't be on greatness. Maybe I will never be a magnificent, spectacular and wonderful blogger. But I can try to be a good blogger - someone who writes the truth, even when it's hard, even if it doesn't make oneself "popular". Someone who isn't afraid to stand up for what the Bible says. Someone who isn't frightened to write with a Christian worldview in a world that seems to becoming very anti-Christian.

I don't have to be a great blogger. I just want to be a good one.

"Klarabelle"

You can find me over at my blog, Klarabelle Candy, where I post about many different subjects including the Bible, musicals, books, movies, my life... etc.
