Summary
In Beatrice Prior’s dystopian Chicago world, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can’t have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.
During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles alongside her fellow initiates to live out the choice they have made. Together they must undergo extreme physical tests of endurance and intense psychological simulations, some with devastating consequences. As initiation transforms them all, Tris must determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes exasperating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers unrest and growing conflict that threaten to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves . . . or it might destroy her.
Debut author Veronica Roth bursts onto the YA scene with the first book in the Divergent series—dystopian thrillers filled with electrifying decisions, heartbreaking betrayals, stunning consequences, and unexpected romance.

My Thoughts
My thoughts are, WOW!!!!!!! I loved this book, it had cliff-hangers at every page turn, on-action, and my absolute favorite, is the Romeo and Juliet romance behind it! It had a lot of gun shooting, violence, romance, everything I love in a book inside! I felt like I was actually there, I was actually Tris. Veronica Roth did an amazing job with this one, and I can't wait to read the second!
Language
In the book, they were saying What The H-ll and they used God's name in vain so many times I lost count! Also, they said that Tris (the main character) was a "Stiff" because she was from Abnegation. But other than that I believe that was it!
Violence
Holy Cow! This one's gonna be a long one. Well, from the very beginning (like, page 30 or something) Tris went through simulations. The simulations involved fears, that felt like she was actually there. In the simulations, she is attacked by crows many times, forced to shoot her family, and drowning. And one time, the Erudite planned to drown her for real for being Divergent. (And sadly, well, sorda sadly, I'm Divergent too.) Being Divergent is not a good thing, if anyone found out, your leaders from your faction, you'd be executed immediately. Anyways. Also, for the first stage of initiation, you have to fight many people until they are on the floor waiting to die. You also have to learn how to shoot guns. And one time Tris' friend was a "coward" for a moment and had to be in front of the target while Four shot at him. So, Tris took his place. Also, another one of Tris' friends was a "coward" for a moment, so she had to hang off the railing of the pit over the chasm for five minutes. There is also a guy named Peter who has to be first in everything. And if he wasn't first, he had to destroy the people in his way of getting first. First, a guy named Drew gets a butter-knife in his eye. Second, Tris is almost tossed into the chasm. And for Tris not forgiving her friend who helped Peter, he tossed himself in the chasm for his own punishment of cowardice. Also, a leader named Eric is the same as Peter, so he tries to kill Four because he was first, so Eric would officially be first. There is a war that goes on between Dauntless/Erudite and Abnegation. The people fighting (the Dauntless) are asleep, powered by computers, so they don't know that they are at a killing rate at 20 people an hour. I think that's it. I'm pretty sure. Yep!
Romance/S-xuality
There is a lot of Romeo and Juliet romance going through this book. People would die for the people they love. Now it is mainly through Tris's family, they'd die for her if it meant her staying alive. Now, it also happens through Four and Tris. They love each other and Four offered to give his life for her a couple times to make sure she didn't die. There is a bunch of kisses and about-to-be kisses. There is a lot of flirting too. Now, they mention s-x a couple times. Like in one of the simulations, Tris is a fraid to be around Four because she's afraid he's going to use her. She tells him and her friend. I think that's it.
